Latest Updates from Our Project:

Progress update, a peek at the frontispiece, & a new project coming from Helios & HPLHS

Hello Backers!

We have been working on editing Two Hearts, and determined that we will need to take a bit more time with that before it goes to print. Your assiduous editor Monica is confirming multiple sources and triple-checking timelines to make sure we get Sonia's story as accurate as possible, and we hope to have the final manuscript to the printer before the summer is out.

In the meantime, we wanted to share with you a peek at the final frontispiece portrait of Sonia. We shared some of the artist's exploratory sketches in a prior update. Here now is the final, full-colour piece:

We hope you love it as much as we do. We think it really captures Sonia's intelligence and confidence in a lovely way.

All the best,

Monica Wasserman & Helios House Press

Hello everyone,

We're going to make you wait just a little bit longer before showing you the final exquisite frontispiece for Two Hearts, but you will see below how much the artist got to know our Sonia before getting to that final version.

We are at the editing stage on the book, everything is moving along well, and we will be in touch soon with some more looks behind the scenes, including a look at the final frontispiece.

All the best,

Monica Wasserman & Helios House Press

BackerKit Surveys, plus a new add-on item!
over 1 year ago – Tue, Dec 06, 2022 at 10:48:11 PM

Hello everyone,

You should all be receiving your BackerKit surveys (emails which will link you to the BackerKit Pledge Manager) over the course of the next week, starting today. This is how we confirm your rewards and how we know where to send your stuff, so it's crucial that you complete it.

The survey, in addition to asking you to provide your shipping address and confirm the items you ordered during the campaign, will give you the opportunity to add on more items if you want, including more copies of the book, the add-on items from the campaign, some other items from the world of weird fiction, and some other Helios House titles.

We are also offering a brand-new Two Hearts add-on item: an ex libris bookplate featuring the silhouettes of Sonia and H.P. Lovecraft, based on the original images created for them by renowned silhouette artist E.J. Perry. This will be available as an add-on through BackerKit as an individual bookplate or as a set of six. We think this bookplate is the perfect way to commemorate Sonia and HPL's brief but important marriage, and we hope you will enjoy the finished product. Speaking of bookplates, you will also be able to add our lightly modified version of Lovecraft’s personal ex libris design to your order via the BackerKit Pledge Manager, should you so desire.

The surveys will remain open for a little while, but we really appreciate your quick response to them, as getting the addresses and your add-on orders quickly helps us to plan out our logistics for the production and fulfillment of your orders. You will still be able to make changes to your order and your address information until we lock the surveys—and we'll notify you in advance before we do that—so it's perfectly OK to submit your information now and update later if needed.

If you don't receive yours right away, no need to worry! We will send another update after everything has gone out letting you know how to contact us if you have not received yours.

That's all for now! Thanks, as ever, for your continued support, and feel free to direct anyone who missed the campaign to the pre-order store, now also open through BackerKit.

Helios House Press's latest venture in partnership with the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society
over 1 year ago – Sat, Nov 26, 2022 at 03:02:52 AM

Hello backers,

Helios House Press, in partnership with the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society (HPLHS), launched a new venture today that we think might interest backers of Two Hearts That Beat as One, so we wanted to tell you a little bit about it. We are delighted to present the Miskatonic Literary Society, an organization with a first year membership cap of 500 with benefits including quarterly booklets, and a variety of other physical and digital benefits!

Members of the society will receive:

  • a welcome letter from Garrison Matthis, Ph.D., Chairman of the English Department at Miskatonic University;
  • a deluxe membership card;
  • quarterly deliveries (beginning in December 2022) of beautiful brand-new editions of classic tales designed by Helios House featuring original illustrations by independent artists;
  • Mythophonic audiobook recordings of each story by Sean Branney & Andrew Leman of HPLHS;
  • surprise bonus items; and
  • future benefits which may include discounts; early access to other titles; and more.

The first series includes the following four short stories:

  • What Was It?, the story of an encounter with an invisible intruder, by Fitz James O’Brien (first published in 1859), shipping in December 2022;
  • The Yellow Wallpaper, a psychological horror by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, (first published in 1892), shipping in March 2023;
  • Markheim, a classic tale of the internal struggle between good and evil with a horrific twist, by Robert Louis Stevenson (first published in 1885), shipping in June 2023; and
  • The Cask of Amontillado, a disturbing tale of revenge by Edgar Allan Poe (first published in 1846), shipping in September 2023.

Each of these tales has been printed on high-quality paper stock using heritage printing techniques by a small, family-owned printer in Scotland and hand-bound with a pamphlet stitch in contrasting scarlet thread. These unique editions are hand-numbered and strictly limited to 500 copies each, the maximum number of Miskatonic Literary Society members for year one.

We will be in touch very soon with your BackerKit Surveys - the mechanism by which you will share your mailing address, among other important pieces of information, with us - but in the meantime, consider exploring membership in the Miskatonic Literary Society for yourself or the afficianodo of classic tales of horror in your life.

Best,

Helios House Press
